Tyler Counsil

Dr. Tyler Counsil, DNA Specialist for HML, Inc. received a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Microbiology from Ball State University Muncie, IN in 2011.

Dr. Tyler Counsil became a part of the HML staff in 2008 as a Microbiologist and has recently taken on the role of DNA Specialist within the company. Dr. Counsil's doctoral degree was obtained at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana, where he focused on the development and assessment of novel Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) assays utilizing messenger RNA (mRNA) for body fluid identification in a forensic setting. Tyler has an extensive knowledge regarding DNA/RNA amplification with several PCR-ready instruments, such as the Cepheid Smart Cycler and Applied Biosytems 7500 Fast systems. Furthermore, Dr. Counsil has experience crafting unique primer/probe sequences to successfully amplify a wide range of DNA or RNA targets (e.g. amplicons), allowing for the creation of target-specific assays based upon client demand. Dr. Counsil has spoken at various conferences both in and around the greater Indiana area. Moreover, he has publications regarding the need for molecular-based testing methodologies and Salmonella spp. assay validation. Dr. Counsil is a welcome addition to the recently established DNA Analysis division at HML.
