Dr. Thomas S. McComish

Dr. Thomas S. McComish, a consultant with HML, Inc. (Hoosier Microbiological Laboratory) and a certified fisheries scientist with the American Fisheries Society, holds several degrees including a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) and Master of Science (M.S.) in fish management from South Dakota State University and a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in zoology/aquatic ecology-fisheries from the University of Missouri. He has a broad and varied background in aquatic biology and fisheries having been involved in fisheries research and higher education for over 25 years.

The author of numerous research papers, reports, and published articles, Dr. McComish is qualified in experimental analysis including design, data collection, computer evaluation and statistical testing. He is a distinguished member of the scientific community and belongs to a number of scientific organizations including the American Fisheries Society, American Institute of Fishery Research Biologists, Ecological Society of America, and the Indiana Academy of Science (Fellow). Dr. McComish is a founder and past president of the Indiana Chapter of the American Fisheries Society and recently was active in forming the Indiana Aquaculture Association serving as president in 1989-90.Dr. McComish's background in aquaculture uniquely qualifies him for chronic and acute toxicity evaluation using bioassay experiments. He has raised numerous fish species in pond production units, intense hatchery operations, and controlled environmental units in the laboratory. Among the fish species he has cultured is the fathead minnow (Pimephales promelas), a prominent part of the bioassay test required for NPDES certification. His scientific expertise, years of research experience, and working knowledge of scientific testing using fish and other aquatic species provides an essential dimension used in routine testing conducted in our bioassay research facility.
