Donald A. Hendrickson, microbiologist and president of HML, Inc., (Hoosier Microbiological Laboratory), holds a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree from Minot (N.D.) State College, and Master of Science (M.S.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degrees from Colorado State University, Fort Collins. Dr. Hendrickson was a professor of Microbiology at Ball State University from 1970 -1999 (Emeritus).
The author and co-author of numerous research publications including ones on slime producing bacteria involved in urinary tract infections and assessment of the hot tub environment, Dr. Hendrickson also has written a chapter on reagents and stains for the fourth edition of the Manual of Clinical Microbiology published by the American Society for Microbiology, Washington, D.C.
Papers he has presented at national and international microbiological conferences include one given at the Second International Symposium on Microbial Ecology held in Coventry, England.
A professional consultant to several industries, Dr. Hendrickson has been responsible for obtaining certification for the laboratory from the Indiana State Department of Health, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the U.S. Department of Interior for mine testing and the U.S. Defense Electronic Center for fungus testing and Nelap.
He holds an advance wastewater treatment plant operator's license from the Indiana Environmental Management Board and is certified by the American Academy of Microbiology.
Dr. Hendrickson is a member of the American Society for Microbiology, Indiana Academy of Science, Phi Sigma Pi, National Registry for Microbiologists, American Society for Testing and Materials, Sigma Xi, Society of Industrial Microbiology, American Public Health Association and the American Water Works Association.
He was the recipient of a National Defense Education Act Fellowship while in graduate school and is listed in American Men and Women of Science, the Marquis Edition of Who's Who in Frontier Science and Technology, and Who's Who Worldwide.
Appointed to the Mayor's Task Force on Incineration in Muncie, the scientist also was invited by the Soviet Union Ministry of Municipal Economy to study solid waste management on a technical exchange program.
He has presented numerous papers on control of pathogens in biosolids at state and national meetings including: Mexico City, Mexico; Salt Lake City, Utah; and Casper, Wyoming; Santiago, Chile; and Laughlin, Nevada; Kentucky RWA meeting, Indian Rural Water Association, Association of Indiana Rural Water and Indiana Water Pollution Control Association.
